Yesterday was the first day of teaching. I got up very early, anxious and full of fear. I am able to make coffee in my room as I brought the materials and there is always boilingwater everywhere in China. As the time to leave neared, i couldn't dress because I was sweating so profusely that my entire body was wet. Another shower helped.
The day turned out fine. The teachers are very interested and very hardorking, but they are so shy that they will not talk in groups with teachers they do not know. When we ciruclate, and ask them to take a position and defend it, they only talk to teacher. And the organizers insist on using a microphone what is loud and has lots of echo. I need to get ready now to leave for the day. the days are long-- 8 am to 5:30 pm. I pray for the breeze we had yesterday as the classroom has not airconditioning.
So far, I have eaten most of what has been put in front of me, but I drew the line at the chicken's feet. My stomach has been fine, which is good, because bathroom facilities are not what we are used to. More on that later.

I'm amazed you can even get to the teachers to ask them their opinions. Sounded to me like a tightly squeezed environment that doesn't allow for even a centimeter of active supervision!

I will read your entries with interest! Good to know you can eat and drink coffee. I do hope that the teachers begin to enjoy the experience of collaborating with one another.
Take care of yourself!
