Nashville was not what I was expecting, it was far more commercial & developed and a hell of a lot bigger than I thought it would be.  We were staying over in East Nashville with the lovely Craig & Michelle that we met through couch surfing.  Sadly they were both really busy with work during our stay so we did not get much time to hang out, but we were able to chat a bit on our first night and sink a few pints of Craig's very impressive home brew.

With only one full day in town we had to make the most of the time, we split up as I wanted to visit the Country Music Hall of Fame whilst Kristina, who was not at all interested in paying the $20 to join me, kept warm at the Tennessee State Museum.  The CMHF is a very impressive place, I would never claim to know much about country music, but I know a whole lot more now that I have been here.  The exhibits were extensive and really easy to follow, with highlights being Elvis' gold Cadillac & his gold grand piano, very tasteful!

In the evening we wandered along Broadway which is lined with the honky tonks & bars, where music fills the night air and mingles with the smells of BBQ food.  The ice hockey team were playing that night in the nearby arena, so seating was at a premium.  We found ourselves some place warm and lively to settle down for a shared plate of ribs, as the servings are always big enough to go round in the US!

The next day we were back at the Greyhound station, and again we found ourselves waiting hours for our scheduled ride.  This time we were informed that the bus was late as it had hit a turkey which had caused it to return to Memphis.  Spirits were raised during our wait by a group of carol singers handing out christmas treats during their performance, god bless them all!

When we actually got onto the bus some 2 hours later than planned the offending bird was now an eagle, and the drivers windscreen had been smashed!

Onto the nations capital, Washington DC!!
