What I did
Avalon Hot Springs
From Oudtshoorn we take the inland route 62 which stretches through the Lesser Karoo mountains. It's bushlands with few farms. We see flocks of baboons along the road and tortoises. The road goes through small, quiet, redneck mountain towns. One of them is called Montagu. I have booked accommodation on a farm just outside of town. Actually the farm is only 500 meters or so from the center so the town is really small. I keep looking for Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny but can't find them. Montagu has good montain climbing close by and in our farm backpackers people have marked their favourite climbing routes on a map.
There are hot springs outside of Montagu in a luxuary hotel called Avalon. It's a cold day so we decide to go there. The hot springs are outdoors but the temperature of the springs are 43 degrees C at the first pool which spills into a second pool that's colder which spills into a third pool that's colder and open to the public. The lady at the gate let's us go in as hotel guests and we quickly get into the hottest pool which is like a jacuzzi. The next pool is about 37 degrees and big enough to swim. So I give Tabisa her first swimming class and she swims for a few strokes.
