Walking again,

Well we have just spent the most amazing three days trekking through the hills in Sapa. We got an overnight train from Hanoi and arrived at 6am, yawn. After another 1 1/2hrs on a bus we arrived at the small hill town of Sapa, it was foggy and you could only see a few meters in front of you but we had hit the jackpot as far as the hotel goes.

Our room wasn't ready so they took us to the new hotel they are building (top half open) and we got a gorgeous room with a huge bed and open fire, god you could of left us there and we'd have been happy.

The first days trekking was more of a stroll around the hill tribes but we still managed to cover double figures on the KM front. The people of Sapa are great fun and the hill tribe women aren't as ruthless as the city sales people and you can actually have some fun bartering for goods, the only problem is there are hundreds of them and they all want you to buy. They tend to see $$$ signs on tourists and unfortunately they don't understand that we aren't all rich.

Day two's trek was more like it, some full hill walking for 6hrs. Today we were lucky as the fog had lifted and the view was breath taking. Rice field after rice field with the mountains bearing down over the valley. We started at the top of the valley and trekked down to the river again passing through lots of hill tribes and them all trying to sell goods. I have to take my hat of to the children as their command of English is fantastic and they've had no formal education its all picked up from tourists, not only could they speak English but to the delight of the two Isralie girls trekking with us they also new a song in Hewbrew.
