So what has been our opinion of Laos, well we have very mixed feelings about it.

We enjoyed the slow boat and loved Luang Prabang (LP), we had an awesome trek up into the Jungle of LP where we met some of the friendliest people who would have given up there own bed for you (prob for a small fee) the scenery up there was breath taking and it was so peaceful with just four of us being up there, which is what I think I enjoyed the most. That I suppose is another plus point, small groups, Asia seems to have this down, where as in the West a small group is around 15-30 people!

Then there was Vang Vieng and I don't need to start on that one again.

Now Vientiane, a city, the Capital. A city that isn't without its own charms but at the same time doesn't over inspire you, by the end of our time here we will have spent around 6 days now this has been due to Visa situations and trying to sort out travel into Vietnam, but by anyone's standards this is a long time for this Capital. Time has passed slowly and activities have to be dragged out to fill the day. The plus side is that we are in the best accomodation, with nice beds, clean sheets daily and cable tv for when the city closes at midnight.

The Lonely Planet describes Laos as "Southeast Asia best kept secret" well the secret has certainly been shared between friends and it has become a well trodden tourist destination.

In conclusion Laos has some amazing countryside which i could have stayed in for weeks and the most ineresting forms of transport to date, the travel though long was enjoyable with a window seat being your best friend. The people are great and love to Barter quickly and there are plenty of wats to go around. I only wished we sorted out our Visa in Bangkok and then we would have been able to travel further South, maybe thats where the secret lies!
