Hey all !!
This is my second to last travel blog - cant believe how fast this has all gone, its quite scary! Cambodia started with a 12 hour bus journey from Vietnam crossed the border over to Cambodia and it was the best crossing yet, was so easy and we went right through to Phnom Phen! Got my Tuk tuk to my hostel and in a way i wished it didn't. It was alright except it said it was a dorm rooms (normally bunk beads) it had many mattress' on the floor with wood going around it! Lovely! Anyway i had a walk around and it was very strange to see hardly any other travelers about, i litterally was the only one for most of the time! Had my first massive scare as i tried 2 ATM machines and neither accepted my card, went into the bank and they said i need to have a Cambodian account to draw out money and laughed when i said i only have 9 days here! Luckily she said try the Canadian bank - which worked! So many thoughts went through my head then of what i was going to do for 9 days with no money!!! Anyway all was sorted then i got talking to a girl in my 'dorm' who is working here as a dancer/actress who had some great traveling stories to share. One of which was a funny one that she had booked and paid for three nights in a 'hotel' with another older friend only to find that it was where they have the brothels! The other lady at the end of the three days said to her 'Isn't it nice that they were so happy on their hunny moon' She then had to ask her didn't you realise their voices were different and they kept walking out right after? The look on her face was priceless!
So anyway after out story tellings we went and got some street food - really nice and we walked past a funeral which apparently goes on for weeks!! However was interesting to see for the full 5 minutes! As i now quite dislike cities i was booked the next day to go to Sihanoukville.
Sihanoukville party central where you can even stay for free if you drink at the bar or work for them and can you believe it i refused! As i wanted a peaceful few days just chilling on the beach! Shocked myself with that one! Anyway it was really nice to chill out been needing some beach time! Was a really nice place here except you get hassled every 10 minutes for a massage, bracelet, manicure etc just non stop! They say to you 'When you want one ask for me and maybe tomorrow?' They remember you the next day they all reminded me that i said maybe, so i soon learnt from that! However i did have a pedicure and got a few bracelets from the kids whose English is scarily very good! Met a girl on the last day who i hope to see in Thailand we had a swim and a sunbath. I did catch up with her for the odd drink or two but i was so tired (not sure why) and was in bed by 10.30! After my third day i was off to Siem Reap.
Had to get two buses here and it took about 12 hours altogether! Fun stuff, for some reason i am always seated at the back with all the Cambodian people and all the Westerners are at the front. I don't mind it but they do like to have a good old stare! Second bus was eventful with Cambodian karaoke on the TV, awful singing and acting so partly entertaining for about 5 minutes. They pack the most random things on the bus so they can drop it off at different locations normally its wood or rice but this time we had a massive blown up bag with water in it, which i soon found out was holding fish. I recon they must have died from shock after the bus journey its not the smoothest journey! Siem Reap was not as i expected but the hostel was fab - just what i needed! Swimming pool and lovely rooms (expect i am sharing with a girl who has food poisening). I went to use the internet and randomly a girl who i had met through the Oxfird nni kids was staying here. So the next day we went to visit the Angkor Wat temples, we had our own tuk tuk for the whole day taking us to the different temples for $7.50 USD eash. The temples really was amazing all the work that went into them was unbelievable and they are massive! The best one was at Angkor Thom as they had completely left the temple alone so all the trees were growing over it and they were also massive and this was where they filmed Tomb Raider, so of course we got our Lara Croft pics in! The next day i said goodbye to Becky she is off back to the UK, then i went for a swim and was off to the Angkor National Museum , which was very interesting!
Today is my last day in Cambodia plan to do another swim (get my money's worth) and then head off to the airport where i will meet a mate of mine at the airoprt Robyn aka Bobbins, who i met in Australia doing to East Coast (oh and a pack of Mcoys Salt and Vinegar crisps, which she is bringing for me as they are my fave and its been so long) i know its cheatign but she asked if i wanted something English. From here we shall be heading to the south island for the beaches and parties esp the full moon party!
Less than one month till i am home kids, really looking forward to it - even though this has been the fastest year of my life, but i have so much to look forward to when i am home!!!
Mum see you in like 2 weeks i think it is! woop woop
Love you loads
