Where I stayed
I knew I could drive right down to the south of Corsica and take a quick ferry from there to Sardinia, and en route we could experience a little of the joy of Corsica, the holiday island of the wealthier French.
The island was hilly and forested, recalling to my mind an Asterix comic I'd once read, set on this isle.
We drove south, stopping for swims at two different beaches, both of them lovely, with clear waters.
We found a lovely restaurant to dine on pizza's, then carried on arriving at the most southerly port. Again, rather luckily, we got an unbooked space for our car on the little ferry, which I had to reverse into, not easy!
The boat ride, which was nice in the open air, took us to Santa Theresa in Sardinia, from where I headed in the direction of Porto Torres, a long drive by a coastline of dunes. In one of those dune beaches we stopped to camp for our first couple of nights at a pricey 4 star campsite which had a private beach and all amenities.
That beach was just like any Norfolk beach really, though not the same cold water. We had our first swim in Sardinia there.
