There to meet us at the airport in London was not only my mother, which I had expected, but also my elder daughter, Eleanor, which was the most pleasant of surprises.
England was cloud covered, and a word for England, that I came up with by the end of the day, was 'bland'.
I was already missing India.
But I tuned into my new world, one of home comforts, sunny beach strolls, and the enjoyment of being with family.
My mums cooking consisted of quorn creations, mashed potato with gravy, and toad in the hole. Mmmmmmmm..... yumptious, though I am sure that before too long, as a consequence of too much culinary overfeeding, my svelte Indian lightness will soon be lost from overeating.
The idea is that for two weeks I will stay in England and then I will fly to my home in the south of France.
