I spent my birthday in a coastal town in Riverton, unfortunatley the weather was shitty, with rain and a really strong wind. Me bas and ramu, stayed in some deserted old campsite with nothing to do other than sit in the van! Thankfully we had some beer and some weed. I got a book on playing guitar from bas(maybe he's hinting at something there ;)) and a 4 pack of guiness from ramu. So I was well pleased with my prezzies. Also the day before we spent in milford sound kayaking, and were blessed with beautifull weather with which to enjoy the amazing scenery! That was a great day! Except for the end of the day where I decided to treat myself to a bed in the dorm room of the milford sound lodge, when I went to bed at about 11.30 however all the beds were taken in the room!! I went back to reception and that was closed to! conviced I had made a mistake I went back to the room and tryed to see if there was a spare bed, I could tell by the groans mumbled cursing though that all the beds were defintly taken! Unbelivable! It wasn't even that late and someone who was gonna sleep in a car or van had pinched my bed! So I went back to the van gutted and angry. I drank more wine and passed out in the front seat of the van on the eve of my birthday! thats one im not gonna forget in a hurry. The next morning I went to reception to complain, after much messing around and checking into things they gave me $18 back and charged me $10 for use of the facilitys. Hardly good customer service! Anyway with the help of the weed an wine and possibly because of 4 hours kayaking I slept like a log in the front and woke up to annother gorgous day, which is very rare for milford sound! So we drove back to Te anu taking our time to take plenty of pics along with the mutitude of japanese and other tourists, and decided to to drive that day to the catlins coast along the scenic highway, which was pretty but nothing compared to the Te Anu-Milford drive. First stop was Riverton a quaint little town on the coast with what looked like a classic right hand point break, the ankle snappers on that day were rolling through perfectly! We set the tent up in this old run down holiday park just in time for the weather to change into strong winds and rain, as there was nothing to do in this town we spent the rest of the eve sat in the van geting drunk and stoned as it was my birthday. It was a bit of bizare birthday to have, but deffintley a memorable one! Before I went to bed I joked to bas an ramu, you boys sure know how to throw a party!
The next day we woke with blury eyes and hangovers and set off early in the afternoon towards the catlins coast.
