Chaing Mai was more of an adventure for my stomach than anything else.  Although I was in Chaing Mai for 6 days mostly what I recall doing is eating.  I feel like I am the only person to come to Thailand and gain weight.    I did take a break from eating one day to see some temples within the old city, Wat Puntao and Wat Chedi Luang which as the largest Chedi in Chaing Mai (88 meters high and base diameter of 54 meters) and it is here that the main pillar of the city is located.  There was also the 3 Kings Statue and a boat ride down the Mae Ping River which took us by the first Church in Chaing Mai and some 600 year old trees.    Of course there was the shopping as well.  In one morning we went to the Umbrella Factory, Silver Factory and Silk Factory (of course didn't buy anything because it would be cheaper on the outside). Then of course there is the famous Night Bazaar where we shopped and watched performers do regional dances.  And then there was the crazy Sunday night market, which was so crowded you could hardly stop to look at anything because the crowds would just sweep you away.    I was hoping the air would be a little clearer up in Chaing Mai than Bangkok but I guess there was a fire going on or they were burning fields because it was pretty hazy every day and you could hardly see the mountains.  I like that it got nice and cool at night so you didn't need to use the AC.  Also found out (since it was an election day) that Thailand doesn't sell alcohol in restaurants or stores or bars on election day because they think people will get too drunk and not go out and vote!
