Once we arrived in the airport in Bali we queued for an hour to get through immigration. While waiting we noticed the death penalty warning for smuggling drugs beside the "Welcome to Bali sign" and we were glad to be back in an unfamiliar country. We headed straight for Kuta which is the big Bali hotspot that is absolutely crawling with tourists. The narrow lanes were actually 2 way streets packed with motorbikes, scooters, pedestrians and the odd truck and were a constant challenge to navigate.
We took the first accommodation we could find and sorted out a nice place with an essential pool for the next day. The heat was stifling but the prices were insanely cheap so we were happy campers eating our way through Kutas cheapest rice and noodles. We took one look at the impossibly big waves on the incredibly crowded beach and got some bad massages instead of killing ourselves surfing. Bali's big blackout interrupted our movie watching but apart from that we had we had a cheap and relaxing couple of days in Kuta.
