We bade a sad farewell to Colombia and to South America and hopped on the plane to Panama, but only after rigorous security checks and intensive searches of all our belongings. Colombia the easiest country to get into but the hardest country to get out of. We arrived in Panama with a recommendation for a hostel from an American guy we met in Cartagena. Little did we know that we would be entering a small American colony. The hostel was run by Americans and everyone that stayed there was American so we had pancakes for breakfast and a TV room called the "movie theater". The American influence was significant all over Panama due to their former involvement with the canal and the mighty dollar as currency. The hostel bar was under construction which was a pity and we never really explored what Panamas night life had to offer. We did check out the canal and saw a huge cargo ship going through one of the locks. We put our lethargy down to the impending rendezvous with the sisters in Guatemala - the calm before the storm so to speak.
