I finally booked my ticket today! I had been driving myself crazy trying to make a decision on a route, and I finally decided that I would just pick something and do it. I fly into Helsinki on August 8th. I am going to spend a couple weeks there and then take the train to St. Petersburg where I will stay a couple weeks. I will then go to Moscow from there and then on the Trans-Siberian making a stop in Irkustk, Ulan Ude and Ulan Baatar before arriving in Beijing. I am not yet sure how much time I will spend at each stop.

I would like to do some trekking/camping around Lake Baikal and something similar in Mongolia, yet I am not sure what Mongolia has to offer. I definitely want to visit the Gobi desert. I am checking to see if I can fly Chengdu to Lhasa late in the year. I also plan to visit Laos, Burma and much of Thailand. My return flight is out of Bangkok (I got a great deal on an open jaw ticket; 90,000 Delta miles for first class/business elite), so I have to do some research on travel routes from Beijing to Thailand and the surrounding countries. Have I missed any must-see places in SEA? I am thinking I might miss out on Vietnam if I don't go.

My next task is to work on visas and tickets. I will be returning to the states before going back to South America. I had a hard enough time making a decision on one part of the world.

:o)Utterly excited and stuck in Atlanta (for now)...
