We were supposed to be in Mykonos from 8:00a.m. - 11:00 p.m. today. I made plans to go to the beach in the afternoon and then after work go to town for dinner. Last time we were scheduled to go to Mykonos we had to detour because of the bad weather.
At about 10:30 this morning the Captain decided that the winds were to strong and because we were docked the ship was hitting the side of the dock and getting damaged. It was also becoming unsafe for people getting on and off the ship. We were to leave as soon as possible. The problem with that was there were 600 guests ashore...and only 100 of them were on tour, which left 500 people unaccounted for. So a few crew members were sent to town and to the beaches with megaphones and signs to find all the guests. There was a possibility that if only a few guests were left ashore that couldn't be found then we would leave and they would be put in a hotel for the night and have to take a ferry to meet up with the ship in the morning. It took until 6:00 p.m. to get all the guests on the ship. We had to move away from the dock so that the ship wouldn't be damaged so the guests had to take tender boats to get on. I was watching the last one come in when the winds were the strongest they had been all day. Let's just say that I was not envious of anyone on it. A lot of the crew members think I might get seasick tonight because the water is really rough, but so far i'm good :) It's really hard to walk around though, and everything keeps sliding in my office. It's definately interesting. A lot of guests were very unhappy that they were "trapped" on the ship while they had to wait for the rest of the guests to come back. They don't care that it's for their safety.
Tonight is crew bingo again...I can feel it, the $500 jackpot is mine!!
Tomorrow will officially be the middle of my contract. Time is flying by...I will be home in no time! Countdown to Venice: 8 days.
Talk to you soon,
