it was lovely to pull into the harbour in Copenhagen. Funny enough it was basically like pulling up to the side of the road. We disembarked and headed towards the little Mermaid statue, with a ton of other people. The children at first liked the walk, but then.. well lets just say.. "when can we sit down".. or "can we go back to the ship" seemed to be their 2 favorite sayings.
Well we did walk.. and saw many things. beautiful fountains and churches and sites.. things we would never ever see again. I'm sure. We made it to a street that had lots of bars and side walk cafes on it as well as a canal. It was lovely. We sat and had a drink before moving on. From that point we decided to try a water taxi tour of the city and it was very nice. Exploring the old part of the city by canal boat was very cool. it gives you a different perspective. The bridges we had to pass under and the crowded waterways. Locals like their boats and this makes for very crowded canals.
After our tour we stayed in the area, had some local ice cream and Elvis has a local beer. We then boarded the hop on hop off water taxi and headed back to the port to board our ship. Elvis and Madeline got off at the Little Mermaid statue to buy some souvenirs and Annie, Eli and I headed back to the ship.
Madeline and I too the opportunity to explore a few of the shops in the port area and then headed back to the ship.
What was the lesson we learned?? Our chidlren don't like to walk. From that day forward we figured out how to see the sites without too much walking, and making the best of our time while we were off the ship.
