Where I stayed
I'm so thankful to Uncle Babu and Aunt Julie for bringing me on their family vacation! We started out by the seven of us piling in to Uncle Babu's Mercedes (no, I didn't say van) and driving down to Mersing to where we took take the ferry. It was about a 6 hour car ride....then we got on the ferry which took about 2 hours. Then a 15 min shuttle to the Berjaya resort and we were there! The resort is huge and right on the beach. The shalets have sidewalks that lead to the beach and ours thankfully, was also close to the pool. Some of the few things available are a golf course, donkey rides, boat shuttles for snorkeling, bicycling, and a game room. The island is beautiful, relaxing, and has cheap beer! It's a duty free island, so Budweiser (starting to like it more and more) was only RM 4 a can.....about $1.5 USD. The island is pretty quiet in terms of vacation spots, not exactly for spring break goers, but it was perfect for getting a tan and snorkeling, they have slides in the pool, and a swim up bar....so not too shabby! The water was really clear and surprisingly warm. A great first Malaysian vacation!
