Where I stayed
Hotel Bethel

Hotel rooms in Europe are notorious for being small. And why not? If you want to stay in a fancy hotel, there's no need to spend $1800 to fly to Europe to stay in one.

We're in the Hotel Bethel, a clean little place in the Nyhavn area of Copenhagen. It's clean, quiet, the staff has been pleasant and attentive - and yet I've yet to see another guest. A little creepy.

Our room is just wide enough for two twin beds with space to walk between them There's enough room for a little desk and a little bench with a drawer. The "closet" is small shelf near the door with some hooks on it.

The bathroom is a 16 x 16 tiled square with a floor drain, a toilet, a sink mounted to the wall, and a shower spigot hanging off the opposite wall. No, i don't mean a shower stall, I mean just hanging on the opposite wall. They've put up a crude little rail with a shower curtain that is of absolutely no use whatsoever.

If you repaced the space used by the shower with a metal bunk bed, you'd have a first-class prison cell.

But hey, it's cheap, it's clean, we'll have spent no more than 7 hours here, so no complaints. Time to go feed some seagulls and watch ships leave the harbor until Max drags himself out of bed.
