When we were in Bayahibe we stayed at the Sunscape Casa del Mar and it was absolutely sunsational! We enjoyed every bit of being able to do whatever we wanted when we wanted. The drinks/food/view were all amazing. The Jungle Bar was outside right by the ocean and served wonderful grilled lobster for $30US which is all we paid for when we were there. The shows were better than I have seen with dancing and comedy acts. We went on a snorkeling tour to the Catalina Island which was only about $40 US a person. We drank Presidente and sang songs all day. Before we left we went horse back riding which was offered by the resort. They bussed us to a corral where the horses all looked malnourished and old. The scenery on the ride was not nice either not recommended. After we left Bayahibe we went to the Altos de Chavron which I highly recommend also. It is a beautiful quaint mock town made in the 70's to look as if it had been there for centuries. This town overlooked plush golf courses and the Chavron River. There are rock steps were you can walk down to the waters edge but beware it is a long way down and an even longer way up. We counted about 200 steps! The Greek amphitheater was very picturesque and set up for a fire and dance show that evening which we couldnt attend. Also don't miss the Museo in the center of the town which had a great exhibit. After leaving Altos de Chavron we went to stay in Boca Chica for a night which is east of Santo Domingo about 25 mins. We stayed at Hotetur Domincan Bay which was right in the middle of it all. There was a good amount of action but not really anywhere to go out to. We mainly stayed in the resort and enjoyed the pool. When we ventured to the beach we were bombarded with people selling goods, bombarded constatntly. No shows or music was disappointing and the food was okay as were the drinks.
Santo Domingo was our final destination and we stayed en la Zona Colonial at the Hotel Conde de Penalba overlooking el Parque Cristobal Colon and the first Cathedral in America. We did a little shopping in this area where there were many shops and even more "guides" to take you to them. I didn't find anything paticularily worth buying, perhaps because it was just not my style, there were some cheap jewelry stores were you could find some neat rings and earrrings. DR was exciting and safe and I recommend travling there and spending a little extra to stay somewhere all inclusive because it is worth it!
