Our next stop was Goa - we went from the houseboat dropoff to the train station in Cochin. One side story (that led to a side trip)....

When we were at the Nature Zone Jungle Park in Munnar, we happened to meet the owner who was there for a corporate outbound training class. He was chatting with us and said he also owns 2 other properties in Kerala - one in Cochin and one on Wayanad in northern Kerala. When he heard that we were going to the train station in Cochin, he invited us to stop by the their property "on the way". We tell our driver about the stop "on the way" to the train station and he says no problem. Once we get to Cochin and start driving, we find that it is not at all "on the way" but in fact quite out of the way. Our irritation quickly subsided once we saw how cute the Cochin property was (the Napier House) and how lovely the town of Cochin is. We got to make a quick stop at a gorgeous church and then head out.

The train from Cochin to Goa was 14 hours long - from 2:30 PM to 4 AM. Sumi was really, really nervous about getting in at such an off time in the morning, but the train was full and there were LOTS of tourists everywhere. We took a "prepaid taxi" to our hotel and it was just fine. Our hotel at Goa was our one splurge on the trip - it was a 5-star resort called the Taj Holiday Village on a 20-acre property right on the beach with a magnificent pool, pool bar, 3 restaurants, AC rooms, cable TV, etc. etc. etc. We loved it!!

Our biggest adventure in Goa was renting a scooter for the day and driving ourselves around. Ryan was brave enough to try his hand at driving in the crazy India traffic. He did great!! It was a blast! The scooter, helmets, and "petrol" was only 430 rupees (about $9.50) -- for the entire day. We took our selves all the way up the coast to Anjuna beach and then out into the city to Old Goa. Our estimate is that we drove about 100 kilometers. :)
