August 6, 2004 marked the 59th anniversary of the day the bomb was dropped. As always, thousands turned up for the ceremony, to renew their commitment to peace. They also turned up to support Hiroshima's mayor, who has pitted himself against the Koizumi government that recently sent Japanese Ground Self-Defense forces to Iraq.
