Saturday - Wolverhampton

Linda had arranged a visit to Uncle Alfred and Aunty Jean. Unfortunately Sandra wasn't there as she was visiting grandchildren that day so we missed her. We took Freda with us.

Aunty jean has started to get Alzheimer's apparently. She looked thinner than ever. She didn't seem too bad in the memory department when we were there. Alf looked good. He's 87 now. He said the Genners hadn't lived past 87 until Dad. He has some angina and Sandra had said on the phone to Linda that he'd had some funny turns lately but he said to me he was well. They were thrilled we'd come over. We had a great time talking about the old days with them and trying to extract some information about the Kane side of things. We found out all about uncle Alfred working in the mines during the war. He was balloted in there as opposed to the army & said he'd been a "Bevin Boy" conscripted to work in the mines (I thought it was a mining occupation but the expression is named after the politician who organised the conscription).

Linda is getting quite interested in the family tree & Dave wondered if we could go home from Windsor via Chichester ... Then we saw how far it was. Chichester & my Kane roots will have to wait until next time for me.

We stayed a bit longer than intended & we dropped Freda in Ludlow @ about 8. Dave was keen for us to go out to dinner in Ludlow but Linda was having none of it - there was leftover hotpot to use before we went to Windsor & she didn't want it wasted. As it happens we just caught some friends who had dropped in to visit as we arrived home. They had been on holiday in Italy together so there was lots of reminiscing about Italy.

After our yummy warmed up hotpot it was time to hit the sack.

Finally realized that UK news was also on your blog Sue! Had received e-mails about your arrival there, & sent replies to them & wondered why we hadn't heard anything! Ann reminded me that it was all in your blog, so We've finally caught up with all your doings & family gatherings there, & great to hear about everyone. So nice that you got to see Alfred & Jean & waiting to hear news of Windsor trip. Luv, Mum & Dad xx
