This morning, we packed up our stuff, returned to Denali National Park one last time, and took the hike along the Savage River.  This area is as far as you can drive into Denali Park in a private vehicle.  We saw several families of willow ptarmigans, the state bird, but no larger animals.  Bye, Denali!!

The 250-mile back drive to Anchorage was unremarkable.  The sky was so hazy - perhaps from smoke from forest fires - that we could not see Mt. McKinley anywhere today.   We ate lunch in Wasilla, the home town of Sarah Palin.  Wasilla is also unremarkable.

In Anchorage we visited Earthquake Park and walked the main trail there.

In the evening, I dropped my sister at the Anchorage airport, and then drove north along the Glenn Highway to Palmer.  It is now almost 11pm and the sun is still shining.  There are quite a few RVs here, but not many tents.  The tent area of the campground is quiet, except for some highway noise down the hill.  I have a long drive ahead of me tomorrow so I better get to sleep now.
