Where I stayed
Back Country Lodge
I am very far behind in writing about our trip. We have been back a month now and I am just getting to our 5th day. Breakfast was pancakes, fruit, granola and yogurt. The group was going on a hike that was a bit above our energy level so our guide took us on a boat ride. What a boat ride it was! We rode up the lake and got out at a stop where we walked and examined many plants, signs of wildlife but no bears! Back in the boat. We stopped at a cabin that was built and maintained by the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge. We stopped for lunch. What a view. Even had an outhouse!! And clean and not smelly.
The Doroshin Bay cabin is a one room log cabin built of spruce logs. The only access is by boat or sea plane. It is a public use cabin.
When we got back to the lodge, Jon and I took hot showers and took a nap! Dinner is next!
Dinner was excellent. We had pork that was so tender it could be cut with a butter knife, polenta which was nice and creamy, vegetables and chocolate chip bundt cake with poppy seeds.
We had an evening program – Kevin Blackstone showed slides of the history of the back country lodge. Afterwards some went to have a campfire but we went to bed. We slept great all night – no bathroom trips at all!
