Geraldton is a city about the size of Shepparton.  It is nice and green thanks to adequate rainfall.  We select a caravan park just out of town backing onto huge white sand dunes and the beach.  A lovely spot to watch the sunset.  Geraldton is a.about ordinary things like shopping in a decent sized supermarket to enable stocks to be replenished, purchasing some fresh local products from market gardens and then moving on.
We are noticing a difference in landscape.  Huge white sand dunes exist all along the coast.  Never seen anything like them before.  It is the whiteness that is different from others.  Stunning.  The other change is we now come across the odd historical building.  There has been a scarcity of old architecture throughout the state so far and I guess that is because a lot of the cities have been settled more recently.  When we have seen them, they have mostly been abandoned, probably because of the harshness of the climate, the isolation and lack of continual work.

Coming into Geraldton, we are no longer remote.  We pass through several towns and see lots of houses and farms along the way.  Northampton is a quaint historical town we stop at along the way.  Its church and garden a welcome relief from the non-historic coast we have seen for weeks.

Geraldton has a long coast line and to our surprise has ore and other ships waiting for their turn to be filled.  The large port handles 50% ore (mainly iron out of Mt Gibson by train and Mt Magnet by road train.) The other 50% is mainly grain. These ships are a big part of our sunset viewing.

Geraldton has a large fish market and had wonderful local fresh scallops (at a premium price) that were presented superbly by Sue.  Road side stall also provided most of our fruit and vegetable needs with great local produce.
