Thanks JT for the explanation of the hotel bathroom equipment.  Some how I dont think it falls into the class of the Montana trip question of that young gal!  You have to keep rubbing that one in, dont you.  We finally did figure out how to get electricity last night, but by that time Sue was asleep and I was ready to crash as well.  Our train ride went fairly well, after we figured out that they changed the track for our train 5 minutes before departure.  We seem to keep skirting problems with the authorities.  Yesterday we avoided customs, today we failed to validate our train ticket but were able to avoid the conductor for the whole ride to Venice.  No validation means heavy fines I guess.  It seemed to take for ever to get our 2 day pass to use the water taxi and toilets.  This is one pass we did not forget to validate.  I certainly do not want a problem with the toilet police.  The water taxi ride to Lido was fun and interesting.  The hotel here is fantastic.  Its an old hotel from the era of Lidos prime.  The room is really quite exceptional and very quiet.  We do notice that people do eat quite differently here - like much healthier.  Today has been a day to experience a variety of Italy's fine beers and wine.  I also find their espresso to be quite exceptional.  We did actually take some pictures today of things other than airline food and will try to load them on this computer so you can see some of our fine photo journalism (hope they are not all blurry).  Dinner tonight was an experience.  Italian waiters are really impatient and walk away saying all kinds of things which I would interpret as utter frustration with the stupid Americans.  I want to learn Italian so I can make comments back, but maybe its better this way since they cant understand English (or at least they act like they don't).  Oh John K, this is just for you - there are lots of beautiful Italian women here.   Tomorrow we are off on a couple of tours in Venice and a night ride of the canals which are really quite unique.  We certainly are glad so many of you talked us into visiting Venice.     Off to try load some photos.

Janet Opdahl says, Hey guys! Have a safe trip!
Hi Sue & Steve! Can't believe you need a 'toilet pass' in Venice! You're right, that would not be a good one to forget to validate! Someday, 'splain that one to me--ha! Sounds like you're having the trip of a lifetime. I'm glad you're taking so much time--why not? If you pick up any coins worth pennies, I collect those! I'll pray for your safe return. Steve--assume you're scotch sampling right along the trail! Love to you both, Janet
