We left Guanajuato on monday. It was kind of sad to go. We went to Morelia which is another colonial city of about the same age but with a different feel. We stayed in the centro. wich is more on a grand scale . All old buildings made of stone and wide avenues with lots of traffic. On wed. we took a tour to the santuario mariposa monarca, which is one of the places in the mountains of Michoacán where the monach butterflies over winter by the thousands. It was 2 1/2 hours from Morelia and then a somewhat long hike up a dusty path. The mariposas cluster in a small area hanging in the tree branches, what at first looks like dead heavy branches because with their wings folded together they are pretty brown. It was pretty cold out (should have brought my jacket) and when they stay cold they stay in the trees. There were a few spots of blue sky so we were all praying for the sun. We did get a bit of warming and then they were starting to fly. It was pretty exciting and I wish I could also describe the sound effect. But it wasn´t as dramatic as our guide told us that it could be when all of them are filling the sky and crashing into your head, but it was thrilling non the less. Unfortunately Lane got sick later that night and is still recovering.Thursday I finally got to arrange a visit with Beck Longstreet who is in Morelia for 6 monthes working as an intern in a hospital. I was mad at myself when I left that I hadn´t brought the camera. Now we are in Patzcuaro which I think I´ll have to tell you about later ,entonces, adios, hasta luego, Susana.
