Start off the day right with a trip to a place around the corner from our apartment ... RIPE. A health food nut's heaven. Good good grub. http://www.yelp.com/biz/ripe-juice-bar-and-grill-forest-hills#hrid:ZyAtTbgYZCaluUZxT7-VDQ/src:search/query:ripe%20restaurant
Afterwards, we headed off to the first 'surprise' I have in store for Inigo and Jaione. Its a small out of the way place I found via yelp called 5 Pointz. Basically, a big ol' brick building used as an art gallery for graffiti artists. Pretty dang cool. http://www.yelp.com/biz/5-pointz-long-island-city (but I will be honest and say that I'm glad it was right on our way in to the city and FREE
Next stop, the Central Park area to check out FAO Schwartz (where they house the piano from BIG). Also checked out the Apple store there.
An hour or so later, we headed over to the MoMa and met Andrew (AGAIN) for big hookups. He got us in as his personal guests in to the museum free! YEAH! ... Also, they have a big Tim Burton temporary exhibit going that requires special passes ... we got in no problem (even though the sign in the front read "SOLD OUT!"). Major props to Andrew. Seriously. After an hour or so in the Tim Burton section, we explored a bit of the rest of the museum. Its HUGE. Lots of great stuff.
One particularly moving artist was performing while we were there ... Marina Abramovic. WOW.
We were scooting along from one room to the other when we looked down and saw a large group gathered around a large square, in the center of the square was a simple wooden table with two people sitting in chairs staring at one another. Large flood lights shone upon them as cameramen snapped photos around and several video cameras filmed them
Anyhow ... on we went. Inigo and Jaione saw the lead singer from one of there favorite indie bands from Spain. Said Hi to him. .... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9K5UrzaKgaY
After a couple of hours, our stomachs told us we should move on to food ... as we left, we got a ground level view of Marina Abromovic at work again and we explored her work for another hour or so. They way it worked is she sat still for HOURS ... and museum goers were invited to join her in the seat ... just looking silently. I would have liked to participate, but the line was too long. One of the guests that sat down broke in to tears after just one minute sitting there. It really was something special, something powerful ....
On to eat
Then, we subway'd over to Brooklyn and walked back to Manhattan via the Brooklyn Bridge. Gorgeous. Our first sunny day put to good use ... just as the sun came down.
Back in Manhattan, we grabbed some drinks in a little funky bar, before heading to our final stop of the night. LIPS. For a unique experience for Inigo and Jaione.
WHOOPED. Back home!! E-TRAIN!!
