Man ... so much has been packed in during the past several weeks I'm having a hard time remembering all the details of each day. Thankfully I've taken some photos so that will help.

Day 17 ... we rest in the morning around the apartment before heading in to Malaga for our first time. Inigo was born and raised here, and his parents live right in the middle of town. Its a ten minute walk to the train station in Torremolindos and then another twenty minutes on the train in to Malaga's center. We are met outside the station by Inigo and we quickly connect with Jaione and Diana for some pre-festival exploration of the city. In a couple of days, the city will celebrate the annual August Malaga Fair ... http://www.andalucia.com/festival/malaga-feria.htm ...

We eat, walk, look, walk, enjoy the sights and sounds of the city ... decorations are going up everywhere. Its beautiful in the heart of town.

The food is great. Today we try a couple of new things. There is a fried eggplant dish, with a molasses flavored type of honey drizzled on top that is AMAZING. And another special type of Tortilla Espania with tiny shrimp cooked right in. More miniature squid, and tons of seafood. Samuel and I are in heaven. Simon, not so much. He's not big on seafood. Janice continues to be pleasantly surprised ... not a huge fan of seafood, but its growing on her as she is able to find some things that she likes.

Inigo does a great job showing us around the city ... we end up seeing all the tourist sights from the outside. At this point in our long vacation, we are over capacity on museums and cathedrals ... and its nice just to enjoy a passing view of some really beautiful places without spending the time and money. Just before we head over to his parents, we eat at a very famous restaurant in the city. Autographed wine barrels everywhere with photos of local and international celebrities.

A walk towards the shore, past the city's bull fighting ring, down the block to Inigo's parents. VERY VERY nice people. Inigo and Jaione have also brought his grandma along with them in the car ride from San Sebastian so she is there too. All very very kind and warmhearted people. We sit and drink tea and eat a huge batch of Arroz con Leche that Inigo has made. Their home has been completely remodeled and has a beautiful view of the ocean and beach.

Lots of laughing and talking (my first real dive back in to speaking Spanish ... feels rusty) ... and then we head out ... back towards Torremolindo (where our apartment is) ... but first ... we've learned that tonight there is a FREE bull fight a block away. We were still debating whether or not we were going to go watch this ... we didn't on our last Spain trip and neither of us were really excited about it ... but with this a block away and FREE so ... we went!

Walking in to the arena was a trip! We walked right in, no security, no tickets, no money ... and BAM, we were right up close to the whole thing. You could hear the matadors and the bull running around ... and eventually, could hear the sound of the knives being stuck in him (bleck!) ... After about five minutes, Simon had enough and walked out. Two minutes later, we were right behind him with the kids ... Ella was in tears and want to scram ...  but as we left, Sam was bummed that we didn't stay to actually see the bull die, and so he and I stuck around and watched from the exit tunnel for another ten minutes. ... Sam has all this exposure to violence and death in tv / movies / video games ... but hasn't ever experienced real pain or sickness / death first hand, with the exception of his pets dying. So, I figured this would be a good learning opportunity. And I think it went well. Both of us were quite sickened by the whole scene. It made my stomach turn to see this beautiful creature, essentially tortured to death right before our eyes ... ... ugh. Won't do that again. Ever.

Back to the apartment. Sleep.

The next two are a blur of beach time, sleep, walking, eating, ... rest.

Its a good life.
