Its our last day in the Czech Republic and we have decided to spend it with members of our Styrsky Family ... Petr and Irena Herynkova (... Irena is the Styrsky by blood, married to Petr) ... joined us in Skutec and then invited us to spend the day at their home just outside of Prague.

A nice walk in a mild rain to the train station, and thirty minutes later, we arrive to Mnichovice (Mnee-ho-vee-chay). ... Lots of rain when we get there, Petr is there to pick us up and take us to their home. ... We can see immediately that we love the town. Cobblestone streets, no tourists, hills, limited graffiti, and population of roughly 5,000. Its great.

Their brand new home (just finished 9 months ago) is only three minutes from the train station. We arrive and find a very .... interesting .... home. Ha. Just kidding. Petr tells us that many of his friends who are not so enamoured with the design of the home say, "Its so modern ... verrrrry interesting...." when they come to visit. ... :) ... But make no mistake, the home is GORGEOUS. Very modern, and well designed by a colleague of Petr's. The home features an automated gate, large windows and glass doors, and a very modern design element. You can tell that a good amount of money was spent purchasing only the best materials for every part of the home. There was a design decision to go with high quality, simple features.

Inside, we are treated to another home cooked meal. Petr has made a beef and vegatable soup. Tasty and just PERFECT for a cold rainy day. The kids ask for seconds ... and even Simon loves it! ... after this soup, he comments ... "Soup and I ... yeah, we've made our peace." ... prior to the trip, he loathed soup nearly as much as he did gravy. (who the heck hates soup and gravy??!).

Then, Irena cooked a wonderful pork, onion, bacon, and red bell pepper dish with fried potatoes. Soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo good. Oh, I just drooled thinking of it.

Petr works in the building construction industry ... and Irena has a degree in economy ... but has elected to stay at home with her children for three years. We've learned that when you give birth to a child in the Czech Republic, after 3 months you are given a choice as to how long you want to stay home ... with slightly varying payments from the government. So, in the US, we get 90 days tops. ... Here, you choose between 2 years, 3 years, or 4 years. Crazy awesome!!!

For nearly five hours, we sit and eat and talk with Petr and Irena about everything from religion, to politics, to health insurance, and business and economy, to children, ... ... they have a 1yr old and a 3yr old. ... and the kids ate and played ... ... outside, the cold rain fell. Inside we got fat and happy. Drinks for everybody. ... and following food and drinks, HOME MADE DESSERTS!!! An amazing apple pie and a black and red current cobbler ... SO good. Coffee, beer, shots ... it was a celebration.

I'm still so tired from the food and conversation. A very enjoyable afternoon with Petr and Irena ... certainly a highlight of the trip. Sadly, we have to cut the visit short and return to Prague to pack ... tomorrow we leave for Malaga!
