And it was another "full on loud" meal last night. I had thought that company might just be a phase I passed through but I think I am now so near the end that I am being joined by different groups all wanting to do the last 200 kms or whatever of the route. Suspect solo pilgrimage is finished. Not to say that there is talking all day while walking but stops tend to be group affairs.

On a separate issue my sore back has been improving slowly. I think that as my hips have become more prominent (they used to be more of a hypothetical medical concept hidden somewhere near my midriff) then it is easier to have my lap strap tight enough to rest the bag on the top of my hips.

Rather oddly one of the hostels a couple of days ago had an old set of bathroom scales which I couldn't resist. I seem to be 62kgs, or about 9st 11. I don't think that I am giving away any secrets by saying that I haven't been that weight since I were a lad. The weight I have lost this year since I started training is considerably more than the weight of my rucksack. That is a frightening amount of fat. Might be all going to change. Group dynamics are such that we eat whenever someone wants and I end up eating and drinking much more than I did alone. Today I had had my second cappuccino stop of the day before 9.30 and tonight another full dinner is planned.

And only 7 more days of walking before Rome.
