Where I stayed
Coffs Harbour 20th March 2010
We set off early from Byron Bay and arrived at Coffs Harbour around lunchtime. After checking in at the Comfort Inn Big Windmill (yes there really was a windmill!) we went to explore Coffs Harbour. Luckily the weather was beautiful and we fell in love with the place (oh yes, another one!) with its stunning beaches, harbour boardwalks with crystal clear water and lots of fish, and the superb long jetty from which the kids were diving into the sea.
We spent ages walking along the harbour and beautiful beaches, watching the waves crashing onto the rocks and the surfers. We also watched a Chinese family fishing where 'dad' was so excited at his big catch which turned out to be an enormous eel! He didn’t know what to do with it and it was very funny watching it flipping about on the boardwalk with everyone screeching, until some locals told him it was best to just return it to the sea as it would be too tough to eat!!
We had a fabulous meal in the Big Windmill that night after a particularly super day
