Monkey Mia 26/02/10

We were on the beach by 7.15am in readiness for the feeding of the dolphins and we were very excited. As we approached the feeding area, we could already see some dolphins in the water – phew – thank goodness for that!  The rangers got everyone to form a line for easier viewing and the dolphins came up right to the water's edge.  You weren’t allowed to touch the dolphins, but they did select people to come forward to feed them.  The dolphins  were amazing and altogether 11 came, including one baby – it was brilliant!

Pelicans also tried to get in on the feeding but without success!

We then went out on a catamaran for a wildlife cruise and this time we were very lucky as we saw more dolphins, dugongs, turtles, sharks (!) stingrays and even a huge water snake. Have to say it did put me off swimming a little as the sea-snake and sharks were a little too close to shore for comfort!  We had an amazing viewing of two stingrays 'playing’ together, the crew said that they had never seen anything like it before, although I think we probably all agreed on what we thought they were doing!

It was the most wonderful day, glorious weather but most exciting of all was all the wildlife we saw!  Well worth the long journey to Monkey Mia!
