Where I stayed
Ayers Rock Uluru – 2/03/10
After a very bumpy landing in Ayers Rock where we seemed to be flying at a 45c angle for a lot of the journey (!) we arrived at our hotel Sails in the Desert which was superb, very upmarket with a great pool and stunning lobby selling all sorts of aborigine crafts!
We had some tours booked and the first one was the sunset at Ayers Rock, leaving at 5pm. So donned with our hats and fly nets (thank so much Kairen and Laurie for buying us these – the best present ever but not a good look!!), we took up our positions, perching on little folding stools and trying very hard to drink wine and eat nibbles without letting all the flies get into our net! You would not believe how hard this is – there were just billions of flies like you have never seen in your life and the amount of time we tried to eat or drink through the net was ridiculous!!
Anyhow it was all worth it as the changing colours of the rock were magnificent – just those damn pesky flies!!
We took so many pictures, sorry if they all look the same, but actually they are all different with the changing of the light - hope you enjoy!
Back to the hotel, a bar meal and then off to bed as the next tour STARTS at 5 am the next morning. That's the middle of the night!!!
