When we arrived we had not booked any accommodation, this is the first time on this trip we didn't book anything in advance as every where had been quiet, we knew we wanted to head to Haad Rin and thought we would check out the infamous "Palita Lodge" some of you will know of this place, and unfortunately you will not recognize it!!! It is now an up-market resort, all rooms have AC and flat screen TV's and cost about 2-3,000 baht a night(in low season), not the 500b we were paying 10 years ago, - check out the photos, the car park is where Rob and Rory or should I say Lob and Lolly stayed on their round the world trip, obviously there was a hut there then, and from what I remember them telling me it was a little smelly ;-)
The hut I stayed in 10 years ago was right on the beach - this plot of land was being rented at the time and they decided not to extend, so there is now nothing there - up for rent if anyone is looking for a business opportunity - check out the photos and you will see the lodge
Anyway, we went there but unfortunately they were fully booked, sods law as this was first time we had not booked and they were full, they were really nice though, the same family were running it and they let us leave our bags there until we found other accom, we went next door to Tommy Resort, exactly the same as Palita, with a pool and they had loads of rooms available, we got a 3 person room by the beach and opposite the Pool with AC, Fridge, Hot water and TV, we picked up our bags from Palita and they told Stu that they had a wedding on so that’s why they were full.
In all honesty we didn’t do much on this part of the trip; we chilled out, played in the pool, drank some buckets (Sally's first ever) and watched the fire shows.
One night we went out and spent the evening on Mellow Mountain drinking a Bucket each mine was Sang som, Redbull and Sprite hmmmmmmmm
At one point I had to help a girl down from the bar (Its on the side of a mountain) as she was being sick and felt dizzy from her "Magic" Shake she had had tut tut, serves you right ;-)
We then went down on the beach and followed the pumping base to the other end this was where the fire show was, basically crazy Thai playing with fires sticks/chains and hoops
After a few days of relaxing we decided to up sticks and head to Koh Samui, we found it difficult to find cheap accommodation on this island, but was eventually rewarded with what I can only describe as the quirkiest place we have stayed yet........
