The first night in the hostel I didn't get much sleep. There was a girl in one bed and a Canadian guy in the bed below me, I talked to them both before going to sleep, and both seemed normal
. I was asleep for a couple hours and then the guy starts talking.. and i'm thinking.. what.. huh.. who is he talking to? The girl? Is he on the phone? NO. He is talking in his sleep, at full volume and mostly complete sentences. And he did it again just as I had fallen asleep again, freaking wierdo! I remember thinking oh you have to remember what he is saying... but i can only remember a partial phrase including.. 'slap her face'.. whatever that means. So the second i woke up and ran to reception and begged to be put in another room, luckily they had a free bed in another room so i got to move. The next night wasn't much better!! Two Swedish guys who I had chatted with quite a bit earlier in the day. One of them came home drunk with some girl and they both jumped on his friend, the guy on the bed below me, so the whole bed is shaking and they are all laughing it up and talking and being so loud. I couldn't take it and asked them to please be quiet. They left and came back and did it again! I told the guy if they come back again then to go outside or tell them to leave, I was so mad, that is just so rude and inconsiderate. I've stayed at a ton of hostels in how many different cities and countries and i've been lucky enough to never have had to deal with drunk rude idiots in the rooms, most people know to leave it outside!
Most of the time i was here i was stressing out on what i was going to do , was i going to stay in Byron for New Years or was I going to Sydney
. I was still waiting to hear back from Carla from Sydney who I had met in Greece, I had emailed her twice and her boyfriend Jay once and he said that it probably wouldn't be a problem if i stayed with her and that he'd give her my number. I still havn't heard from her and it's long past New years. I hate people like this, they talk a lot of talk.. oh yeah when your in my city of course you can stay with me.. rah rah rah... well don't say it if you don't mean it!!! Anyway, so I was annoyed with that whole situation, and because I put it off for so long the busses were booked and so was all the hostels in Sydney. I decided I can't be in Australia for New Years and not spend it in Sydney so I decided to go for and keep calling the bus company so i called and called for 2 days and finally a seat opened up. So i was going to Sydney, place to stay or not.
Back to Byron. For dinner I went back to a little Japanese resturant I had been to the night before, I sat at the sushi bar and started chatting with the guy next to me. Brindley from Sydney, he thought it was funny that i was in a sushi restaurant sitting at a sushi bar but i don't eat sushi. We got along really well, he was very easy to talk to, seemed interested in what i had to say, and asked questions and gave feedback etc.. you know like a conversation is supose to work! Most guys do not know how it works! He was very polite and respectful. We went to the big bar across the street from the beach afterwards for a couple more drinks, then we went our seperate ways and off to bed pretty early. Unfortunaly he wasn't going to be home for New Years otherwise I coulda stayed with him!
Next day I went to the RSL to play the pokies. The RSL is for the vetrans, like a bar, resturant, slot machines etc. So bascially I'm like the only one under 70 in their. haha , nah there was a couple other people my age, but Bridley made fun of me for hanging out there, so when he called i said i couldn't tell him where i was cuz he'd laugh!! But he came over and hung out with me there before my bus left.
Next stop was Byron Bay. It's sort of a hippy spiritual organic healthfood type of town, and I didn't get up to a whole heck of a lot here. The weather was a little crappy raining on and off and apparently its been raining since I left and doing a lot of damage to the area, even Fraser island had to be evacuated. So happy I missed all that mess at least. I walked up and down and around the main street several times, had some lunch on the rocks on the beach once.. went to the movies and saw Enchanted, and right in the scene involving rodents and cockroaches, a giant green bug landed on my knee! I knocked it off but had to get my flashlight out to keep an eye on it for the rest of the movie, i couldn't relax knowing their was a big bug running around. Also saw the Golden Compass, both movies were ok.. cute.
