Windsor Castle is one of the homes of the Queen. It began being bulit in 1080 and is the worlds oldest working castles. Five royal weddings have been held there including Prince Charles and Camilla's. The castle was only successfuly attack once, in 1215 by the nobles and King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta. During WWII the city was bombed but not the castle, as Hitler was planning to move in. There are over 900 rooms! Of course i had to ask if it was haunted and it is, over 12 ghosts reside there. The tour included 3 sections. The first was a room of an enormous dollhouse with everything perfectly to scale and including working plumbing and real silver diningware! The next section was filled with a few original drawings of Da Vinci's, one of them being worth over 100,000£ ! There were also photos and mementos of the royals weddings. Lastly we visited the chapel of St. George, the most interesting thing about this church in my opinion of course, is that it houses the remains of various royals, one of them being King Henry VII. Plaques cover the floor and say beneath this spot so an so's remains are burried here, etc. This whole tour took almost 3 hours and we were so tired.
We had a nice pub dinner and got one of the curry specials which included a drink for £7, not a bad deal at all. I got the Thai chicken red curry, it was really good! So full we felt like taking a nap on the train ride home. Tonight we are having a quiet night in the room. We are taking some time now to do the internet thing and Katie wrote a brilliant complaint letter to the company we booked the tour with. I'm off to the room to read or somethign now, and Katie's got to apply her fake tan so she's nice and brown for tommorow night out in Liverpool! That's it for today, cross your fingers for me that things go more smoothly for us for tommorow than they did today!
So we were joking around about not missing our tour bus departure this morning since the night we met back in Auckland we both were so smashed we overslept and missed our tours! This time we diligently set our alarms, awoke with plenty of time to spare and arrived at the meeting point no problem. Decided we should ring the tour company and ask were to wait. The lady says the bus left at 8!! Our confirmation clearly says tour departs at 11, any changes and you will be contacted. She just said oh yeah that's happend before and we can't do anything about it and to contact the company you booked it through! They had no contact number. We were supose to be going to Stonehenge, a sunset special access tour, $150 each. We walked across the road to a travel office but they were unable to help so we went to the train station to see about going to another city for the day and we chose to go to Windsor to see Windsor Castle. Was about a 45 min. journey.
