So, we finally reached Rio, and our tour officially ended on 5th July. However, we all stayed in Rio until the 11th, so it didnŽt really feel like the end just yet!

The weather was pretty miserable whilst we were there, so we didnŽt get to do much sunbathing (although Kerry and I tried our hardest on Ipanema beach!). We did head up Cocorvado (hunchback hill) to see the beautiful Christ the Redeemer statue and great views across the city. We also took the cable car up Sugarloaf mountain, and sat at the top eating cheese and biscuits and drinking red wine as we watched the sun set over the city - fantastic!

When we eventually ran out of wine, we had a couple of caiprinhas before realising we were the last people left on sugarloaf, apart form a guy from Sydney called Andy who had joined our littl group for the evening. WeŽd been up there for about 4 hours, so decided it was probably time to head back down!

We had a good time in Rio, and met up with some guys whoŽd just finished a different Encounter trip. On the 11th, it was time for Bianca and Tom to continue on another trip, going from Rio to La Paz (Bolivia), with 6 other people who were just starting their trips in South America. Kerry and I were both heading for the same place as them down the coast, and their lovely guide Rich offered us a lift down and a tent to sleep in once we were there. How could we refuse?! So, onto Parati we went!
