OK so lets have a little scientific and social experiment.  We shall examine the lives of two friends, traveling together for a while, then going their separate ways, eventually to be reunited back at the ranch for Christmas.  By ranch I mean hostel.

One (for arguments sake we will call her Beth) takes Spanish lessons, does a home stay with a local family, enjoys some serene, clean living and volunteers for said hostel; during which time in walks the man of her dreams, sweeps her off her feet and whisks her away for a fun filled, romantic weekend in neighbouring Costa Rica.  In spite of what appears to be a traveling romance, the future looks bright, and I will be wearing my kilt to the wedding.

The other (for arguments sake we will call him Stuart), follows a girl to a den of iniquity, drinks far too much every day and as a result has his wallet and glasses stolen, and finds himself in a bar brawl.    Finally returning to find his camera has been nicked out of his stored back pack, for a week he has panic and anxiety attacks, the after effects of excessive partying.  Now he can't see because the opticians have put the wrong prescription lenses in his new glasses, his new contact lenses don't fit well, and he has a stigmatism in his right eye.

Dear readers let us not labour the point, but what a fucking idiot.

Yes you can blame bad luck, wrong place, wrong time, bad karma, etcetera, etcetera; but the fact of the matter remains; had I been sober, none of this would have happened.  Had I followed Beth's example this adventure of mine might have come to a premature end.  Looking for Stu; in search of life, love and happiness; found it.  TTYL.

Seriously though it's pretty obvious the effects of too much boozing.  When I think about how much trouble has been caused because of that over the years, it frightens me.  I'll go out on a limb here and say if we didn't drink, perhaps myself and my ex girlfriend would have stayed together.

Actually no chance, she was a fruit loop.

Anyway I spend the day with a rather nice young lady who for some reason enjoys my company.  Since it appears it's all been doom and gloom at the moment, I should address this imbalance. It actually isn't.  Let's look at the positives.  The sun is shining.  I'm traveling the world.  I have a nice companion in Granada, Nicaragua.  I'm not dead.

Life is pretty good.
