We'd planned on staying another night in Granada but at breakfast today we were told that new guests (with standing reservations) were arriving for the weekend and the hotel didn't have a room available for us. We were planning on going next to Leon and were told it was probably better to travel there on saturday than sunday since many buses and collectivos don't run on sunday. After packing up we went up to the Parque Central and caught a bus to Managua.

It was a longer than usual bus ride. The traffic was really backed up in Managua, especially the last 5 miles to the University. This was not only the end of the bus route but where we planned on catching a collectivo to Leon. There was a line of about 30-35 people waiting (in the sun) to go to Leon. With only about 11-12 seats in each collectivo we knew we'd have to wait for the 4th or 5th to arrive. We noticed frequent arrivals for all the other destinations but the Leon-bound vans seemed to be arriving about every half hour.

When it was finally our turn I ended up in the back seat of the van (with 3 other adults and a child in arms) for the 90 minute drive to Leon. Since I couldn't see out of the window I figured it was a good time for a nap.

After a quick drink at the Leon bus station we flagged down a taxi to take us to the center of town. I had the name and address of our planned hotel along with a map but our driver still had to stop 3 times and ask people on the street for directions.
