I crossed over into Turkey today... it's starting off really great. It's really quite green here... there continues to be more and more life to the landscape as I make my way north. There are some really nice looking smallish mountains here that I'd like to climb already! I'm in Antakya, which doesn't seem to get all that much praise in the guidebook, but I quite like it... there's the mountain backdrop with some houses clinging to the side... seems a little like a scaled down Banff... anyhow... it's waaaaaay expensive here though! I hope it's not too much a sign of things to come. My hotel is 25 CAD which is about 4 times what I have paid anywhere else this trip... we'll see.
Some girls stopped me on the street to talk.... apparently they see very few tourists here... most people just blast on through... so they really wanted to talk English with me. I asked them to take me to the best donar shop in town... it was GREAT... veal with veggie in a pita... then asked them to take me to the best kunafe in town as this place is known in Turkey for some of the best... if you remember this is the sweet cheesy desert i first found in Amann... and it was really good as well.... anyhow... off for now... next destination may not have internet, so could be out of range for 2 to 3 days...
