Today we are off to start our exploration of the Great Ocean Road.  It is a 243 kilometer (151 mile) stretch of road along the south-eastern coast of Victoria between Torquay and Warrnambool.  The road twists its way between the mountains and ocean, showcasing the amazing cliffs, plateaus, blow holes, and arches the water and wind have created over the years.  It was quite exciting to even research and read about,  so we are super excited about the next two days.  The weather has been a bit overcast though, and we are really really hoping for the clouds to part because we have strategically planned this trip on the best two days the weatherman could predict.
Our first stop was inevitable:  Bell's Beach. Now for anyone who can recognize the phrases " little hand says it's time to rock and roll" and "two Utah, get me two!"  then you know this is the site for
the last scene in Point Break.  It is also in the movie The Endless Summer. The beach was nice, but the waves were super flat so no surfing showcase today.
We continued to Aireys Inlet to see the Split Point Lighthouse then through Lorne.  We stopped near the Kennett River, where koalas are supposedly spotted in the gum trees sometimes per our Lonely Planet book.  Luckily they were right.  We spotted a total of 5 while walking up a dirt road, which felt like Christmas.  We were told that an Aussie might go their whole life and never see a koala in the wild and we just saw 5!  What an awesome experience!
