We hopped a ferry with our car to North Stradbroke Island for a few days, which is 30 km SE of Brisbane. It is the second largest sand island in the world and has a population of 2000. We camped on Cylinder Beach, near Point Look Out. The only thing between the water and our tent was a few trees and a small sand dune. We bush walked along the North Gorge, and hiked to the Blue Lake (which we found out 5.2 km later isn't that blue :) The North Gorge has an amazing view, and from June until November is known for whale watching during their migrating season. We were fortunate enough to see whales, a sea turtle, and dolphins jumping the waves. What a beautiful island!
