Leaving the Camp-site, I was approached by Mark "The Ranger," who wanted to make sure everything was ok. On the way toward Turlock, I stopped a stopped an older deputy, from whatever County I was coming into, who was eating at some kind of A&W Root Beer/Subway/Long-john Silver, fish place, (no kidding.) We spoke for a while, a while turned into a long while and after my 4th root-beer float, I was in no mood to ride very far. The Deputy, who had a lot of time on the job, gave me his card and told me just jump on the 99, as he sees it all the time and he didn't mind me using his name. Well, sorry Tim, I lost your card along the way.
With that, I jumped on the on ramp, and the first thing I saw was a CHP involved in a traffic stop with a big-rig. I was hoping that I would not run into the same guy that stopped me down South. Before leaving, one of the things that Tim said was that the CHP's had specific areas and that I would not run into the same guy (I should have known that). What was different about this particular on-ramp was that the was a sign that said, "No Bicycles Etc." I decided I would be the instigator, so I walked up, map in hand, feigning innocence, which is partly true, and I had received and endorsement from Tim, So I was sure all was as it should be. That turned out to be true, as even the CHP guy saw it as unreasonable that Bicyclists could not use the road. I continued on my way, and I was relieved to find that Golden State Blvd., started at the next offramp and there was also a sign that said Motels next right. I did not need anymore signs, so I stopped at the first Motel I saw, the first one. It was auspicious as when I stopped, I noticed that the trailer tire had recently gone flat.
One thing I left out was that during my extended stay at A&W, I phoned Mark, the owner of the boat in which my direction was direct. Mark told me that if I can wait until after tomorrow around 4PM, that he would drive the short distance, by car that is and drive me up to view the boat as well as stay at his home for a couple of days and heal-up. I think that I am going to take him up on his offer, and I left a message stating my intent.
I can rationalize this decision, as I have been on the road now for, what 11 days, I really don't know, and that is exactly what I was looking for. So, I can hole-up, maybe buy a boat, maybe not, but still the same, I am going to continue toward the Coast (West) and continue back home. Considering the initial car drop-off, and if I really stop and smell the roses, I should be back home when planned, about the end of October.
I am sure that after I do the business that I need to do in LA, I can take off again, maybe longer, or maybe I will take a break by restoring the boat I am going to look at.
All in all whatever I do, I am sure it will be. The only concern I have is that when I return, someone will want to reverify that I have, in fact, had a neck surgery and yes my arms are still. numb. Those thought are far away, just where I want them to be, and just where I thought they would go.
Don't get me wrong, I want to work, I consider this work, and a potential to earn money. I also see restoring a boat work and also a potential source of revenue possibly. I do not however, want to sit in a classroom thinking of where I could be going or what I could be doing. For the first time in a long time, I have a sense of adventure and purpose.
Thanks, Steve
I noticed my first flat today, the trailer, as I was pulling into the the Shasta Motel, on
