Wow, I am on south side of Fresno and I needed to stop at Brooks Ranch restaurant eat something, as I forgot to eat when I left Selma.
First, I need to thank those of you who have made donations. It was a pleasant surprise to look and see that few people have donated to keep me on the road. I suppose it is alright to promote myself a little and ask for a dollar, or so, from those of you that can afford to do so. I would also like to welcome a new reader, the owner of the boat I am going to see. Sounds like a nice guy and he turns out to be an Episcopal Minister as well. His addition begs the question for an intro into Religious philosophy, as well as the use of what some call profanity. I have no moral objection to profanity in some cases, but I find it is typically used to replace a term in which is lacking in ones vocabulary. Too pretentious? probably, but it is also my belief.
I just want to advise everyone reading that the email addresses are private, except to me. I have a couple of well known individuals reading, and I want to insure them that their identities are well protected. Additionally, I would like everyone to know that any donations will go to staying at the few remaining, "mom and pop," motels I stumble upon in my travels. I believe these last bastions should be patronized for their original purpose. That is for the use of travelers and not for people to live in for many different reasons. The placed I stayed last night, appears to be fighting that battle. The first thing I noticed was the strong smell of Herb. Now, I am not against the use of marijuana for some people, just not me.
This came to light early last evening, when the people living next door, knocked and invited to, "smoke me out." I politely declined telling the man that weed introduces me to demons living somewhere in the corner of my mind and that I do not care to bring them out. The guy just smiled and said, "that's cool man, dig what you are doing," and left.
I am enjoying a nice steak lunch, having ridden 10.7 miles with a head-wind. I experimented with the electric system for a while. There were no major problems, except for that it got a little wobbly at 20mph, so I backed off and pedaled, recharging the batteries to full. I intend to stop with a full battery unless I can avoid doing so.
For my Falconry friends out there, according to the roadkill on the road that boarders the 99 from Selma. The area is full of Cottontails and there are the occasional Jacks out here in the endless grape vineyards. The vineyards are pretty tight with wire and I have lost a tail mount, now and again in those things. Appropriate grammar for the subject matter at hand.
I will continue later when I stop for the night. I hope to cover more about my gear, starting with the "Target," full-face helmet I am using. I am using this brand, called a Razor Wrap-around for several reason and I hope to go into more detail later.
For now, I will enjoy my steak and then conyinue down the road.
Steve
