Al Udeid is a Qatari military facility about 20 km west of Doha, the only major city in Qatar. I don’t know what the actual agreement is, but the Qatari government allows the US and several other nations’ forces to reside here too
I’ve been here for over a week now, since June 18, and I’m just finally getting some time to start this blog. I have lots of ideas for topics, so hopefully you’ll find this an entertaining way to keep up to date on all of my fabulous adventures. Future topics include: Tour of Doha, A Typical Day at Work, Where I Live, Rest and Relaxation, The Souk (the traditional street market), Running, What’s for Dinner, Persian Carpets, Camel Racing, and many many more! If you have any comments or questions, please post them. That will help motivate me post more and provide a way to interact with you. And also feel free to share the link to this blog with anybody else you know who might be interested.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you and posting more! In the meantime, here are some pics to whet your appetite.
Over here, we pronounce Qatar “Kha-TAR.” They told me before I left to pronounce it “Cutter,” but nobody does that.
