On Thursday, July 31, I took a taxi from the airport to the Hampton Inn on 1531 Pacific Highway. My husband arrived later because he had business to do in San Diego. For dinner, we took the trolley to the Gaslamp District on Fifth Street. The trolley stop was conveniently located behind our hotel. We ate at the Bella Luna. I had the crab cakes and my husband had the chicken parmesan dish. He liked his meal; however, I wasn't as impressed with my meal. The crab cakes were a little dry. Since I had been up so early, we called it an early night and went back to the hotel.

The next day, we drove out to La Jolla and went kayaking to the sea caves. While waiting on our tour, we ate at Jeff's Burgers. My husband and I both ordered the Jeff's burger and it was delicious. As we ate our burger at the table outside the restaurant, several tour groups walked by to either go kayaking or snorkeling.

After downing our burgers, we went back to La Jolla Kayaking for our 12 pm tour. We were placed in a small group with 7 other people and a young, energetic tour guide named Colton. As Colton pushed us out into the ocean, he informed us that we were just over leopard sharks. Therefore, when we were given the opportunity to swim in the ocean later on, we declined.

Our grouped paddled out to the sea caves and Colton tried to make the tour as interesting as possible with local trivia about the area, the sea caves, and the sea lions. However, we were informed that we had to view the sea caves from the outside since the swell made it too dangerous to go inside. That was disappointing after paying $80 for the tour. We would have had more fun renting a kayak and venturing out on our on. But not being from the area, we went with the safest option to do the tour. After the tour, we took the scenic route back to the hotel through La Jolla and Old Town.

That night, we went back to Fifth Avenue and ate at Max New York. I ordered the swordfish and my husband ordered a steak. We had many good meals while in San Diego, but this was by far, the best meal that we had. After dinner, we went to Petco Park to see the Padres and Giants play. After the game, we went to Jimmy Love's to hear a band play some good 80's music.

On the third day of our trip, we had to check out of the Hampton Inn, since they did not have any vacancies. Before checking out, I walked across the street to the Maritime Museum to see a few ships and a sidewalk lined with urban trees.

I went back to the room, checked out and then drove out to Balboa Park, and then to Coronado. After touring Coronado, we checked into the Doubletree Hotel on 1646 Front Street. This was a much nicer hotel. Our room had a small balcony with a great view of the city.

For dinner, we again went back to the Gaslamp District and ate at Henry's Pub. I ordered the salmon and my husband ordered pasta. We both enjoyed our meal. Afterwards, we went to the House of Blues to listen to a band.

The next day we caught an early flight back home. We arrived at the airport at 4 am for a 6:15 am flight, which seemed like enough time. However, there was only one line, one LONG line, to check in for Continnental, regardless that we did not have a bag to check in. Keep that in mind, if you fly out of San Diego.
