Taxi Mayhem:

Stephen and I decided to fly into Lima airport in order to save our sanity and not have to deal with another 20hr bus journey.
Only problem was that we arrived at 8:30 in the morning and we had to wait until 4pm that afternoon for Stephenīs aunt to arrive...
So it was like sequel to The Terminal with Tom Hanks , how to kill 7 hours in the airport... well we found our ways.... taxi drivers are crazy in Lima airport.... roughly 20 taxi drivers a minute harrass you to see if you want a taxi... we started just wrecking their heads pretending we wanted a taxi and then saying no that we actually felt like relaxing in the airport for a few hours..
Then time for Pizza...
Internet..
Getting bored...
Spot a Mc Donalds.... cant resist..
Then a massage for 40 minutes...all for €10.
Eventually Joanīs plane arrives... we decide we dont want to stay in a crazy city of 10 million people for the night... so then decide that we will try and bargain with a taxi man to drive us 250 km down the coast to Pisco..
Now donīt get me wrong i love Stephenīs family but i seriously think his aunt believe i was trying to kill her... we are swarmed by taxi drivers offering to drive us the 250km for €120, of course i decide to bargain, I reckon half of these taxi drivers didnt have a licence but i reckoned the risk of staying in Lima for the night was much the same. The big sign in the airport only to take licensed drivers still doesnt put me off..

With my best Spanish i finally bargain one guy down to €60, €60 for 250km... a taxi driver in Dublin would be pushed to drive you to Tallaght from the city centre for that.

Then his car pulls up... its the biggest heap of crap.... beginning to wonder what have I done... Stephens family is going to kill me for killing 2 members of his family at once, thats if  I live to tell the tale.

His driving is erratic to say the least... he stops of at a garage to change some tyres, gets some air into the wheels and fill the tank... still trying to figure out how this guy is going to make money... worried he is going to rob us to make profit.

3 and a half hours later we all begin to relax, this guy seems alright, wondering when the hell we are going to get a Pisco... then we see a sign 40km to Pisco... sigh of relief... until a police man pulls the taxi driver aside... he gets a fine... not sure whether its for not having a licence or for driving outside Lima boundaries.... he is pissed of to say the least... he definintely is not going to make a profit now and he has to drive the 250km back to Lima.

All is good when he drops us at the door to our hotel..... we give him an extra €20 as first of all he didnt rob us and second of all he bought us to the door...

Deep sighs of relief all around and bed....
