Nice enough old town, but the really awesome highlight was the ruins of the ancient Greek (or is it Macedonian?!) city of Heraclea, founded by Philip II (Alex's dad) that are being excavated at the edge of the city. Many amazing mosaics are clearly visible (if not for their artistic value, for their longevity) and the Roman theater, built by Hadrian, not discovered until 1968, is quite complete.
The model of what was built on top of it over the centuries helps to explain how these things stay hidden for 2000 years.
