With a couple of days off work in mid-August, Johana and I rented a donkey cart and headed south in order to swap the Madrid heat with the Andalusian equivalent. After too many hours on the road, we arrived early morning in Jubrique at our dear friends Caroline and Gunnar's place. That was our base for the next few days, while sampling just some of what Andalusia has on offer. Free rounds at Arco Iris, the hottest spot downtown Jubrique (Caroline and Gunnar got a two year lease on the bar). Gunnar spend his time flipping burgers in the kitchen (low on air-con) while Caroline attract the local farmers with delicious Guinness on tap. We wake up late for breakfast (beer on the terrace) the next couple of days, before walking up to the center of Jubrique for some more fluids at the Arco... And so the days go by, before we one day decide to head down to Tarifa on the coast, quite a kite-surfing paradise with a bohemian edge. We just stay long enough to try out the Mojito at a local chiringuito, followed by a juicy steak in the old town. We arrive back in Jubrique late at night, enjoying another beer or two on the terrace while Oso is barking at the moon. The next morning after breakfast it is time to head north again, so we take our cart and bid farewell once more to our Andalusian friends. We choose an equally long route back home to Madrid, but this time via the beautiful city of Ronda, Sevilla (no time to stop this time, we will be back though!) and Extremadura (another area we need to check out one day).
