Last year it was Prague and this year Istanbul for our annual work off-site. Both new locations for me as well as excellent selections. Since I last year also managed to visit both Rome and Barcelona on my own, the list of European must see cities is kind of shrinking. I come from a small town close to Oslo, if that was ever a must see city. For many years I practically lived on the doorstep of London. I spent about four years in beautiful Stockholm. I currently live in excellent Madrid. I've been countless times to Paris and Munich. I have visited Bergen, Copenhagen, Tallinn, Riga, Vilnius, Hamburg, Cologne, Amsterdam, Edinburgh, Dublin, Nice, Monaco, Venice, Athens, Valencia, Porto and Lisbon to name some of the bigger and obvious ones.

I guess that leaves out Reykjavik, Berlin, Dresden, Krakow, Budapest, Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Vienna, Zurich, Zagreb, Ljubljana (hmm, I think I may have been there when I was about 12), Dubrovnik, Florence, Granada, Seville... Well, I am not sure if this list makes any sense at all. I just looked at a map over Spain and Italy and noticed that there's tons of nice cities where I wish to go. So the same probably applies for most of the other European countries. And I haven't even started considering the smaller cities, or what about all those places I yet haven't realized is a honey-pot, or worse yet, that I haven't even heard about. And then we can start to look outside Europe. Hong Kong is a place I really would like to see. And Tokyo... and Montreal. Kathmandu, Lhasa. What about Cairo, Beirut or Damascus? As I said, I guess there's not much sense in my list. The only thing I know is that I am nowhere near to run out of places to go.

Istanbul is a very cool city. Good ol' Constantinople is huge. It is the only metropolis out there which is situated on two continents. Europe and Asia that is. In between you have the Bosphorus. Add the Golden Horn, the Grand Bazaar, Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque to the picture and you find a city that definitively deserves a visit. I went there for a work off-site, but managed to squeeze in some sightseeing on the weekend leading up to the meetings. Istanbul, a city I could easily go back to...
